Cyberbullying Info...Remember that: -ANYthing you do on the internet is permanent-- even if it is deleted. Cyber bullying falls under the new anti-bullying law. If you wouldn't say something to someone (or say it in front of your mom/grandmother)-- you should never write it in any format and send it (or forward someone else's words). Bullying takes many different forms... be careful with sarcasm/ humor online/in texts as it can be misconstrued. Text messages can be deleted, but your parents have access to every record of them... they never go away. After reading a lot of online research about this and speaking with many colleagues, here are some suggestions for you (many of which I am sure you already do):
- Fifth graders need to be guided in their exposure to anything online and/or with a cell phone.
- If your child has a cell phone... check their text messages frequently (even deleted ones-- find out from your phone company how to make this happen).
- Check email/Instagram/etc. accounts... keep passwords & let your child know that open access is your rule.
- I think the most important advice is to talk with your child about all of this. I will continue to add good sites that I find about this difficult topic. Please let me know if you find any good ones too!
Thank you,
